10-year-old Joris loves drawing and admires his famous grandfather, whom he has never met. When his grandfather falls gravely ill, Joris sneaks into his house. There, he discovers something extraordinary: his grandfather can enter the world within his paintings. Curious, Joris follows him into this magical realm. Grandfather teaches Joris to paint, but his strict lessons clash with Joris' own ideas. Meanwhile, Joris learns about the difficult relationship between his mother and grandfather. Joris must choose: paint as his grandfather wants or find his own path. He grapples with this decision and learns about the complex bonds within his family.
"Achter de Deur" ("Behind the Door") tells a heartwarming story spanning three generations. The film shows how difficult, yet important it is to find your own voice in art and life. It's about family, creativity, and the courage to be yourself, even when it's not easy.
