WE’RE MAKING A NEW SHORT FILM: POCONGDORIE 😱

Who’s ready for Indonesian ghosts? We definitely are! 👏👻

Together with the super cool guys from @hetshotfilms we’ll be making a new short film next year called ‘Pocongdorie’. Because guess what? We are completely funded for this film! 🤩

In January of this year we shared the crowdfunding campaign and together with a lot of amazing people who donated and funding we received by @gemeenteamersfoort , @vfonds and @nederlandsfilmfonds we are now able to make this horror comedy short film! Sooo grateful for everyone who believes in this production 🥺🥰 And a huuuge shoutout to Jasper and Ivan from Het Shot and our very own @fauvography who have all worked immensely hard to make this film a reality, yeah! 👊❤️‍🔥

Pocongdorie tells the story of the Indonesian-Dutch siblings Dwi and his sister Nanda. Throughout the years they grew apart but when their mother dies, they have to sort out their conflicts to arrange everything that needs arranging… including their undead mother who stills haunts their house as a ‘pocong’ 👻😱 (A pocong is an Indonesian ghost with unfinished business wrapped from head to toe in white fabric, super creepy!)

Pre-production has officially started, of course we’ll keep you updated in the new year! 🔥

This means we’re one step closer to realizing Shiny New World! 🩰 Talia, our graceful lead character who is working immensely hard on her ballet career, is portrayed by the talented @elainemeijerink, who is a professional ballerina in real life as well!

🥀 Zoe, the original lead dancer who secretly carries a heavy burden, is portrayed by the fierce @jatousumbunu, who we loved working with before on the short film FEMME

Back in April we shared some behind the scenes of the upcoming body horror short FEMME by @ninanoelraaijmakers ❤️‍🔥 Currently we are in the final stages of post-production and let us tell you: Nina Noël has turned us into even bigger body horror fans! 🤩

The story of FEMME shows the darker side of sorority traditions. Young student Fem discovers not only the harsh realities of typical college life, but also the interesting hunger that her own body seems to develop after a hazing ritual forces her to have sex for the first time.

Let’s add the final finishing touches and then we’ll share more about this dark coming of age short film ✨

Believe us when we say we are 🔥hysterical 🔥, because we received the most jaw-dropping news by the Dutch Film Fund this week: we’ll receive production funding to make a feature film of Shiny New World! SO EXCITED! 😭😱🎉😍❤️‍🔥

If you know us for a while now, you know that short horror comedy Shiny New World is one of our favourite productions to this day 🧼 The fact that we are now one step closer to really making a feature length film of this demonic world including the most fun crime scene cleaner ever (we love Barry ❤️ ), fills our hearts with so much joy 🥺

The feature film isn’t completely funded yet, but by receiving this part of the funding we are now really close to realising this production. Let’s make the feature film of Shiny New World a reality 💪

Short film IZZY has been selected for @bifanofficial festival and will experience its world premiere at South-Korea this summer 😍🎉 Mind-blowing!! 🤯

It would be an understatement to say we are excited for this selection, so let’s just say we are screaming as loud as protagonist Izzy in this film still ‼️😱
IZZY tells the tale of young woman Izzy who is constantly stuck in the same cycle: mocked, dismissed, ignored, forgotten. But a touch of red glitter? Now that’s a game-changer! ✨

The most fantastic news for our to-be-produced feature film The Girl with the Green Eyes: the project has been selected as part of the Frontières Platform Proof of Concept presentation at Festival de Cannes! 😍✨

This means that we, together with writer and director @yfke.vb, get the chance to pitch this film to financiers, sales agents, distributors and basically anyone interested in imaginative genrefilm! 💫

And that’s not all! All the 7 selected feature-length genre film projects were featured in an article by @variety, but The Girl with the Green Eyes got a special shoutout: “Frontières also highlights a new generation of emerging genre filmmakers […] Among other emerging talents, “The Girl With the Green Eyes” is a banner feature from Rotterdam-based Make Way Film, founded by the energetic Monique Van Kessel, behind ”Heresy” (“Witte Wieven”), well received at the Rotterdam Film Festival this January” ❤️‍🔥

One month ago we started shooting FEM(ME), a body horror short by @ninanoelraaijmakers

It was a first for us to shoot a body horror short at a typically Dutch ‘studentenhuis’ in Rotterdam. All the rooms were packed with crew, equipment, make-up & costumes and of course the obligatory student decor like shot glasses, a traffic sign and neckties scattered across the place 🎉 The perfect location for the tale of protagonist Fem, a first year’s student who is experiencing the disturbing changes her body is going through… 😖

Soon we’ll tell you more about this one of a kind body horror short, for now we’d like to offer you a glimpse of set life during shooting FEM(ME)! 🤩😂

When the @hetshotfilms guys introduced us to the concept of a ‘pocong’, an Indonesian ghost with unfinished business wrapped from head to toe in white fabric, we were sold immediately 🤩 Jasper and Ivan have succeeded to write a story that doesn’t just feature a terrifying ghost, but also includes themes like grief, finding out about your heritage and rediscovering love for your siblings. A horror comedy short film filled with the occasional drama and necessary laughs 🌝

Another big step for The Girl with the Green Eyes! ❇️

More GREAT Filmfonds news, because our upcoming magical realism drama The Girl with the Green Eyes (written and directed by Yfke van Berckelaer) received funding for its artistic development 😍🎉 We received the news two weeks ago and were literally jumping for joy! 🥹 This funding means that we are able to further develop the film, including doing a test shoot and creating some badass concept art ✨

We already like to share this first still of the test shoot… what do you think? 💚

After the successful (and extremely fun!) participation at the European Genre Forum earlier this year, it is exhilarating to see that the Dutch Filmfonds believes in the film as well. The dark yet magical story of eight-year-old Mara deserves to be told and we feel honoured to partner with genre champion @yfke.vb , and fabulous script coach @ernietee2000 to bring this tale to life 🫶

Our first body horror film, let’s go! 🤩

YES, we received the most amazing news: Filmfonds granted our submission for Fem(me), a body horror short written and directed by upcoming talent @ninanoelraaijmakers ! ❤️‍🔥This means that, together with the generous funding we received by Playgrounds (Provincie Brabant) and Gemeente Rotterdam, we can now proudly say that we are 100% going to produce this thrilling short film next year 🙌

Fem(me) will tell the tale of young female student Fem, who not only discovers the harsh realities of living the typical student life but also the… well, interesting hunger her very own body seems to develop. A short film purely focused on the female gaze, of course with a fantastical spin and the ultimate body horror twist director Nina Noël is known for 🫀

Nina Noël is one of the talents of the Next Talent Program by @weareplaygrounds (and partners). We immediately connected with her over our shared love for horror film and can’t wait to start this glorious journey with her ✨
